See QR scans in Google Analytics
Tag your link so website visits from a code show up as their own source.
Turn on Add UTM tracking on the code's form. Visits from the code then show up in Google Analytics, or a similar tool, under the source you choose. This works for website codes only.
Set it up
- Open the code and click Edit.
- Turn on Add UTM tracking.
- Fill in the fields:
- Source: where the code is printed, such as
flyer, posterormagazine. - Medium: how people reached you. It's prefilled with
qr; keep it. - Campaign (optional): the campaign name, so you can compare several codes.
- Source: where the code is printed, such as
- Check the link under Scans open, then click Save changes.
Use the same spelling every time. In Google Analytics,
Flyerandflyerare two different sources.
Why the numbers differ
QR BASE counts visits through the short link, excluding recognised bots and link previews. Google Analytics measures activity on the destination website. Its results depend on the site’s settings, consent choices, browser restrictions and whether its tracking loads. The totals can differ because the tools measure different things. Use QR BASE for scans and Google Analytics for what people do afterwards.
Problems
- The UTM option is missing. The code is a PDF. Tracking only works for website links.
- Google Analytics shows nothing. Make sure the destination website has Google Analytics installed. Reports can take 24–48 hours to finish processing. See Google’s reporting guidance.
